From a young age I’ve always loved fragrances, I mean who doesn’t. Scents reminds us of past memories, make you feel happy and can help you relax.
But it wasn’t till recently when I looked around my home at every reed aroma stick, scented candle, pillow spray and aroma diffuser I own. That I realised how my love of essential oils has grown.
Aromatherapy has been around for over 6000 years and I can see why. The great thing about aromatherapy is its many natural forms and array of essential oils, each unique with its own benefits from psychological and physical well being. No wonder it’s offered as a form of alternative medicine.
The health benefits of aromatherapy can range from reducing anxiety, easing depression, boosting energy and help speed up the healing process. Not to mention the can induce sleep, relieve nausea, reduce pain, improve digestion and increase circulation.
Unfortunately pure essential oils are highly concentrated which can lead to skin irritation when used in an undiluted form. Some oils can be highly toxic to domestic animals particularly cats. So you will find many essential oils require to be mixed with a carrier oil (such as olive, coconut, almond or jojoba oil) for application such as massage.
Aromatherapy for massage
When visiting beauty spa’s, my initial consultation asks about how I want to feel, do I want to be relaxed or feel energised? The beauty therapist often offers two scents to smell to suit your mood. Aromatherapy massage is an amazing experience for deep relaxation as well as improving circulation and muscle tension.
I’m quite a big fan of Aroma Diffusers and their many benefits. I just find them great to add fragrance when used with essential oils and water to make the air fresher and easier to breathe especially when I have suffered a cold or hayfever.
What I like about Diffusers is several discreet interchanging colours such as pinks, blues, greens and yellows giving a beautiful mood lighting effect which creates a relaxing atmosphere as well as a scented room. I often find the air in the room feels pure and fresh and easier to breathe.
Aromatherapy Reed Diffusers
My home has a habit of smelling a bit musty, I find Reed Diffusers are a good alternative to plug in fresheners. The pretty glass bottles with 5-8 reed sticks inserted inside, absorb the essential oil fragrance and distribution into the air. It’s so nice to smell when you walk into a room. Although they last only a few months, making your own reed stick Diffusers is really easy.
I’m a big fan of dry body oil spray especially Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray. Not only are the sprays great at keeping my skin hydrated and smooth. But it contains Citronellol oil which can repel mosquitoes and yes it does keep the little blighters at bay.
Lavender Pillow Sprays are my favourite friends, a few squirts on my pillow before bedtime help to relax my mind before a good nights sleep. Perfect after a stressful day, my worries quickly fade away.
As you can see I love aromatherapy, there options are endless and each has its very own purpose. I would love to hear about your comments on essential oils.
