Everyone faces anxiety at some point in there lives, that overwhelming feeling of dread. Or suddenly feeling as those you can’t breathe and your heart is going to explode without the about of pounding its currently doing. Anxiety is a tough emotional battle to face, which makes having a natural solution, such as an essential oil blend, important. Managing anxiety with essential oils along side any current medication you may be taking for the condition will provide great comfort and relief. Even when the cause of the problem has been identified, the use of essential oils will provide ongoing support to the user.
When using essential oils, it is important to create a quiet and relaxing atmosphere away from any distractions such as people, phones or TVs beforehand. Candles are a great way to relax the brain as incandescent light is calming on the eyes and senses in comparison to the blue light emitted from our TVs and phones.
Risks of Essential Oils for Anxiety
As with all essential oils, never ingest or apply undiluted to the skin without using a suitable carrier oil, I’ve found Sweet Almond oil the perfect blend for anxiety. Always test a small area first and proceed with caution as essential oils may react differently to different individuals, especially children and pregnant women.
The Best Essential Oils to treat Anxiety
Below is a list of suitable essential oils to treat anxiety, you will find there are plenty more oils that compliment anxiety but I have found the ones listed below the best to use and they are all easy to purchase online and can work well for other treatments too.
Lavender Essential Oil
One of the most common essential oils and one of my favourites, Lavender offers a wide range of benefits to support a calming and relaxing effect. Lavender is good at supporting the nervous system while assisting to reduce hypertension, headaches and insomnia which are all associated symptoms of anxiety. Lavender helps prevent convulsions, can alleviate depression as well as creating a calming sedation which can lower blood pressure and strengthen the nervous system.

Another popular choice for a peaceful, harmonise and calming effect. Chamomile can decrease irritability, overthinking, anxiety and worry. Chamomile tea can offer the same effects as the essential oil.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
Ylang Ylang can help with cheerfulness, courage, optimism and soothes fearfulness. A moderately strong sedative, which can help with insomnia. Its also great at lowering high blood pressure due to calming palpitations though its best to avoid this essential oil if you suffer from low blood pressure.

Geranium has a lovely floral fragrance which is perfect to regain hormonal balance. Geranium is can help alleviate depression and helps balance the adrenal cortex. Geranium can balance the effects of the fight or flight mode by flooding our systems with adrenalin.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Not only does rosemary smell lovely, it also has a calming sedative effect with the added benefit of detoxication (the result of too much Adrenaline in the body which causes a build-up). Rosemary is perfect to remove unwanted toxins in the body and can reduce cellulite but one thing to bear in mind with rosemary essential oil is that it is a naturally diuretic. Expect increased loo breaks as the essential oils naturally removes the unwanted toxins in your body.

The ingredients of Earl Grey tea is bergamot which can be detected due to its distinctive floral taste and fragrance. Bergamot essential oil has a calming effect which can reduce agitation felt and is often found to treat depression too.
