Life can be a happy one but its not without faults, especially when we are thrown into negative situations such as a divorce or the death of a loved one, maybe you just lost job and are struggling to make ends meet. Any given situation can be quite upsetting and may trigger a form of depression named circumstantial depression. This form of depression is quite normal as emotionally healthy people will naturally grieve during these situations which eventually deduce once the negative impact subsides. But what if these feelings don’t subside? Clinical depression is a more serious side of depression and can lead to taking medication. If you are suffering from circumstantial depression I would recommend using essential oils to help relieve any negative feelings you may be facing. For clinical treated depression I would strongly advise speaking to your doctor first before treating your depression with aromatherapy.
When using essential oils, it is important to create a quiet and relaxing atmosphere away from any distractions such as people, phones or TVs beforehand. Candles are a great way to relax the brain as incandescent light is calming on the eyes and senses in comparison to the blue light emitted from our TVs and phones.
Risks of Essential Oils for Depression
As with all essential oils, never ingest or apply undiluted to the skin without using a suitable carrier oil, I’ve found Sweet Almond oil the perfect blend for depression. Always test a small area first and proceed with caution as essential oils may react differently to different individuals.
The Best Essential Oils to treat Depression
Essential oils are great for uplifting your current mood and state of mind. The scents from the oils drift to your brain which serves as an emotional trigger to balance out your wellbeing. All essential oils are easy to purchase online and can work well for other trigger treatments too.
Aroma Diffuser and Essential Oils
I have found using an aroma diffuser in your home to be the best way to diffuse essential oils, the aroma diffuser when added only with water and 3-4 drops of your chosen essential oils listed below will help you relax during the day when in use and help you sleep better at night when placed in the bedroom. Most aroma diffusers have an auto switch off safety feature so you can sleep knowing the machine will not instantly run throughout the night.

Frankincense is a good choice for treating both depression and anxiety because it provides a calming and tranquil energy as well as spiritual grounding. In aromatherapy, frankincense can help deepen meditation and quiet the mind.
Depression like anxiety, it’s essential that we try to address the cause of the depression in order to resolve the problem permanently. There are therapies which will help the person move through the healing process and each person will need to find the right therapy for them. When this is not possible or the path to full recovery is a slow one then the use of essential oils will act as an excellent management option. Managing the symptoms will largely depend on what symptoms are presented within the person. The essential oils are chosen to address these symptoms and the method of application will depend on the symptom itself.
