Follow these step-by-step instructions to make a gorgeous, professional looking garland to decorate your home this Christmas year.
The Christmas garland is one of my favourite decorations to make for Christmas. It makes a once plain fireplace look cosy and christmassy and its so easy to make yourself. What I love about artificial garlands are that they can be re-used year on year, which is great if you are planning an eco friendly Christmas this year. Plus I love to add more decorations to my existing ones too. Not only with your own homemade garland look expensive and stunning to look at, it will also work out cheaper than a shop bought version. So today, I’m going to show you how to create a beautiful Christmas garland to me envied by your friends.
Most of my decorations where purchased from Wilko’s and other local Christmas craft fairs and stores at the start on November. The sooner you can buy the decorations, the better choice of decorations you can get at a good price. Some times I wait till after Christmas to buy more for next year at half the price and store away.
The step-by-step instructions for creating stunning, expensive looking DIY Christmas garland.
Double up the greenery. Most pine garlands are too thin to look expensive. So buy two or three and bind together for a luxury look and spend plenty of time fluffing out the branches.
Add lights to create an cozy effect. Opt to buy LED battery powered lights. String them on and tuck the wires into the branches as much as possible.
Add the details. This is the fun part! Now you get to adding the finishing touches from ribbons to poinsettias, cinnamon sticks, holly leaves and berries and pine cones. Try adding other accessories that take your garland to the next level and really make it special. You can use anything you’d like for this part. Just make sure to attach anything breakable securely with florist wire. I usually put my garland in it’s home before adding the details so I make sure the placement looks right.
