Do you tend to spend most of your day sitting on a chair?

Well your not alone, nearly 80% of the population work in roles that require us to spend six hours or more sat down. Which explains why many of us are not reaching our daily 10,000 steps and it’s not from lack of trying either.

Keep moving every two hours

Sometimes easier said than done when workloads are heavy and deadlines are tight. But prompting yourself to get up and move every few hours can help kick start your metabolism. Simple walks to the printer or stationary cupboard, making a cup of tea or taking extra loo breaks can get us moving.

Take the Stairs

Next time you opt for the elevator why not try the stairs instead. Try walking up and down the stairs in your office a few times a day, it’ll sure get the heart racing.

Make use of your Lunch Breaks

If you have one hour for lunch, try setting yourself a daily goal to walk for 30 minutes. If there are any health clubs near your office, a lunch workout can help get the blood pumping. Or better yet, start running on your dinner if you have time and are feeling energetic.

Avoid the office cakes and sweets

We all have that one colleague who insists on bringing in homemade cakes and sweet treats. Although it’s hard to resist, strong will power will avoid you piling on the pounds. Sitting all day in an office, it’s hard to burn those extra calories.
